Panic in İzmir: Forest fire in Karaburun
Efforts are underway to contain a forest fire that broke out in the Karaburun district of İzmir.
A fire broke out for reasons yet to be determined in a wooded area in the Boyabağ bay of the Kösedere neighborhood in İzmir.
Upon notification, firefighting teams and heavy machinery belonging to the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the region.
During the fire, which is continuing near residential areas, 3 people affected by smoke were rescued by gendarmerie teams and handed over to medical personnel.
Efforts initiated by the teams to extinguish the fire are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a total of 100 people, including 40 staying at a campsite in the area and 60 residing in 20 houses, were evacuated by AFAD, coast guard, and gendarmerie teams.
Acting District Governor of Karaburun Mustafa Özbay, Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan, and AK Party District Chairman Ahmet Toros arrived at the scene to receive information about the operations.
Some citizens are also supporting the firefighting efforts with their heavy machinery and tractors.
