Parliament in turmoil: 'Fascist' implication regarding Atatürk and İnönü

AKP İzmir Deputy Yaşar Kırkpınar's implication of 'fascism' regarding Atatürk and İsmet İnönü caused major controversy in Parliament.

To the CHP deputies' remarks of “Who is the fascist, explain?”, Kırkpınar replied, “Am I supposed to prepare my speech according to your wishes?” As the arguments did not cease, the committee meeting was adjourned.

“EXPLAIN WHO THE FASCIST IS”

According to the report by Veli Toprak from Sözcü, AKP's Kırkpınar said during the Planning and Budget Committee's deliberations on the Presidential budget, “The Republic of Turkey is not the state of single-party fascists or a handful of political and economic elites who see themselves as privileged, but the state of the 86 million-strong nation.” CHP deputies objected to Kırkpınar, saying, “Explain who the fascist is; you are sitting in that seat thanks to the Republic, do not overstep your bounds. Is Atatürk a fascist?”

“YOU HANG AN ATATÜRK POSTER AT THE AKP HEADQUARTERS”

CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba also stated the following:

“Not a single person in İsmet İnönü's family has ever been involved in dirty dealings or theft. He challenged [enemies] on the battlefields. Your problem is with Atatürk. You only remember him when FETÖ members bomb [the country] on July 15, and then you hang an Atatürk poster at the AKP Headquarters.

In fascism, there is Hitler, there is Mussolini. İnönü lost the election in 1950 and said, ‘This is my greatest victory.’ If there is a multi-party life today, it is thanks to the Atatürk and İnönü you dislike. Atatürk founded this country on the battlefield.

If you are looking for a fascist, look at those who travel with 300 bodyguards. Look at German and British leaders, and then look at those who travel with 300 bodyguards and hundreds of cars. If you are looking for a fascist, look in the mirror.”
