Parliament takes action following school attacks: New steps on the way

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is convening this week with significant agenda items.

GENERAL DEBATE ON SCHOOL ATTACKS

A comprehensive general debate will be held in Parliament due to the school attacks that occurred in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş in the recent period. It is planned to establish an investigation commission with the joint decision of the parties in order to evaluate the attacks in all their dimensions.

INVESTIGATION COMMISSION PLANNED

The establishment of the commission is expected to be decided in the General Assembly on Tuesday. This commission, which will continue its work for 3 months, will invite all relevant parties and experts to investigate the causes of the attacks and focus on solution proposals and necessary precautions.

SOCIAL MEDIA RESTRICTION AND MATERNITY LEAVE REGULATION

Legislative activities in the TBMM continue at full speed during the same week. In particular, a legislative proposal that restricts social media use for children under the age of 15 will be negotiated in the General Assembly. It is stated that this law aims to protect children from harmful content on the internet. Furthermore, it is stated that a regulation regarding the extension of maternity leave for mothers to 24 weeks is also included in the package.

STRAY DOG ISSUE ON THE COMMISSION'S AGENDA

The issue of stray dogs is being moved to the agenda of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs. The results of the practices carried out within the scope of the relevant law that entered into force in August last year and the effects of the changes made to the Animal Protection Law will be evaluated one by one. Detailed presentations will be made to the committee regarding the current situation in practice and the steps that can be taken in the future.
