Pedals turned for the environment and hope in Kartal

Kartal Municipality hosted a meaningful event to raise environmental awareness and promote healthy living. As part of the June 3rd World Bicycle Day and the Environment and Zero Waste weeks observed during the first week of June, the streets of Kartal were filled with the colorful sights of cyclists. The program, which was also attended by Mayor Gökhan Yüksel, saw great interest from numerous non-governmental organizations, cycling associations, and residents of Kartal of all ages.

WASTE RECYCLED, PEDALS TURNED FOR HOPE

Held under the slogan "Let Waste Be Recycled, Let Pedals Turn for Hope," the tour honored the memory of the late Kartal Municipality Council Member Umut Daştan, who passed away in recent years. Throughout the route, which started at the Kartal Adalar Ferry Terminal and continued to the amphitheater area at Dragos Marina, the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and urban mobility was emphasized. At the end of the tour, emotional moments occurred as the certificate for a sapling planted in his name was presented to the family of the late Daştan.

MAYOR YÜKSEL: WE WILL GROW THIS AWARENESS TOGETHER

Speaking at the event, Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel highlighted both environmental awareness and the importance of loyalty. Yüksel stated, "Today, we are together both to grow our love for nature and to keep the memory of our valuable colleague Umut Daştan, whom we lost prematurely, alive. We will continue our efforts to popularize bicycle use in Kartal and leave a more livable city for future generations."

ART AND ZERO WASTE TOGETHER

The organization was not limited to sports; musical performances were presented to participants during events prepared by the Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste. The "Tree of Life" exhibition, prepared by students of the Kartal Municipality Art Academy using recycled paper, demonstrated how waste can be transformed into art. At the end of the event, bicycles, helmets, and various equipment were awarded through a raffle, and various refreshments were offered to the participants.
