Physicians march to Saraçhane
Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, physicians have joined the wave of protests spreading across the country. Responding to a call from the Istanbul Medical Chamber, the physicians marched to Saraçhane, chanting, "We will not be the palace's physicians."
As protests triggered by the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu continue across Turkey, a notable support march took place in Istanbul. Led by the Istanbul Medical Chamber (İTO), physicians gathered and marched to Saraçhane to protest the operation against İmamoğlu and the ongoing process.
During the demonstration, the physicians carried a banner reading "We are defending democracy and the will of the people," and frequently chanted, "We will not be the palace's physicians" and "We are not silent, we are not afraid, we are not going anywhere."
In a statement made at Saraçhane Square, the physicians expressed that they would resist not only as a professional organization but together with all segments of society, stating:
"We will be wherever we need to be, whenever we need to be there. We will be in Saraçhane, we will be in Kadıköy, and we will be in Taksim. We will resist this coup in all the streets, all the squares, all the areas, all the universities, all the lecture halls, and all the campuses of Turkey. We will win by uniting."
