Police began preparations 1 day before diploma cancellation

The General Directorate of Security (EGM), under the Ministry of Interior, made significant ammunition purchases ahead of recent social unrest. Following the cancellation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma, security forces initiated a series of tender processes in the wake of protests that began on March 19.

Police began preparations 1 day before diploma cancellation

The General Directorate of Security purchased 13,000 facial recognition cameras before March 19, and subsequently initiated tender processes for 20 million rounds of ammunition and 100,000 tear gas canisters.

According to a report by Uğur Zengin from Evrensel, the EGM approved a tender for the installation of 13,000 facial recognition system cameras on March 18, just before the developments took place. This project, with an estimated cost ranging between 33.7 million lira and 253.4 million lira, is targeted for completion within three months.

Furthermore, within the framework of tenders opened by the EGM since the beginning of the social movement;

280,000 daily electronic monitoring system and service procurement,

10,000 OC gas sprays (400 ml),

7.62x39 mm steel-core cartridges,

100,000 40 mm five-chamber tear gas canisters,

10,000 riot police parkas,

50,000 smoke-dispersing gas hand grenades,

7,000 non-communicating data phones will be purchased.

E-HEARING PROJECT WORKS

The Ministry of Justice has initiated a tender process for the installation of 150 “e-Hearing” systems to reduce the physical attendance of lawyers and citizens at hearings. This project aims to provide remote access to court hearings.

FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM TENDER OPENED

The EGM's extensive security purchases both before and after the social reactions that began on March 19 have drawn attention. The content and timing of the tenders show a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
