Police had removed his tent: Statement at dawn from Mahmut Tanal, who kept watch in front of the Ministry of Justice!

CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal spent the night in front of the Ministry of Justice for university students who were arrested and sent to prison for participating in protests following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Tanal, who kept watch until morning, emphasized that the arrested students had participated in peaceful protests and were merely expressing their thoughts, drawing attention to the fact that these young people are being deprived of their right to education.

Stating that prison administrations are not allowing students to reach their universities and that they are unable to attend exams, Tanal made the following statement at dawn:

“The education of young people cannot be sacrificed under the pretext of security! Penal and precautionary decisions must be made with law and conscience, not with spite and anger. We continue to produce urgent solutions with the Ministry of Justice, the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, YÖK, and universities. Respect for the right to education of our youth, who are our future, is a duty of humanity and law for all of us.”

Tanal had gone to the front of the Ministry of Justice yesterday evening (April 8) and set up a tent. Tanal's tent was removed shortly after by police intervention.
