Police intervention against teachers' protest in Ankara: Sit-in protest under blockade in front of hotel

Teachers who came together under the umbrella of the Platform for Teachers Victimized by Interviews and the Private Sector Teachers' Union in Ankara did not give up on making their voices heard despite the police violence they experienced yesterday.

The teachers gathered today at 14:00 for a press statement they intended to hold at Kurtuluş Park.

However, security forces completely blockaded the area around the hotel where the teachers were staying and did not allow them to walk to the park. The teachers, who were stranded in the hotel, began a sit-in protest on the street in response to the blockade.

Meanwhile, police intervened with pepper spray against some teachers who managed to reach Kurtuluş Park after their press statement. It was stated that several teachers were detained following the intervention.

It was learned that CHP Deputy Chairman Responsible for National Education Suat Özçağdaş and CHP Ordu Deputy Seyit Torun also joined the protest in front of the hotel to support the teachers. In their statement, the teachers demanded that the police siege be lifted and that those detained be released immediately.

While the police's intense security measures continue, it was reported that a large number of people were detained from the area.
