Police intervention at March 8 gathering in Kadıköy: 9 women detained
Thousands of women gathered in Kadıköy, Istanbul, for International Women's Day on March 8. At least 9 women were detained during the marches toward the Kadıköy waterfront.
Women gathered in front of the Süreyya Opera House and around the Bull Statue, marching toward the Ferry Terminal Square. During the march, which took place under a police blockade, slogans such as 'Long live March 8, long live women's solidarity' were chanted.
At least 9 women were detained during the march. The detentions were protested at the rally site with chants of 'We will continue the struggle until those detained are released.' Throughout the march, thousands of women voiced their demands for women's rights and equality.
Calls were made to continue the struggle for the release of the detained women. The event once again demonstrated the determination of women to make their voices heard and defend their rights.
