Police officer who managed 'Bombacı Mülayim' social media account dismissed

A police officer serving at the Trabzon Police Department, who made posts on social media under the name 'Bombacı Mülayim', has been dismissed from the profession after spending 70 days in prison. Journalist Barış Terkoğlu wrote a detailed article about the police officer.

Terkoğlu reported that the police officer in question was detained as part of an investigation launched by the Bitlis Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The police officer's message had included information alleging that the police officer wife of the Bitlis Police Chief supported the AKP in the election and used her official vehicle. Following this post, Vedat was detained by the Bitlis Police. During a search of his residence, various digital data were seized, and he was subsequently held in prison for 70 days.

Following Vedat's detention, the scale of the incident grew with press statements issued by the General Directorate of Security and the Bitlis Governor's Office. Numerous accusations and slanders were made against him. However, as a result of investigations, it was understood that the 3,000 pages of documents belonging to police officers were actually not classified information, and the accusations that Vedat had targeted them for terrorist organizations did not reflect the truth. During this process, the fact that aid provided to stray animals was evaluated as "gaining benefits" was another noteworthy point.

Disciplinary investigations were opened against Vedat due to his content and social media messages. Ultimately, Vedat was dismissed from the police profession on grounds including "targeting for terrorist organizations," "gaining benefits," and "disciplinary offense." Additionally, an administrative fine of 26,000 TL was imposed. After being detained and entering prison, Vedat's situation, while the judicial process was ongoing, also revealed the contradictions between the police and state institutions.
