Police officers fired upon in Tuzla: Suspect wanted for 10 different crimes

Police officers fired upon in Tuzla: Suspect wanted for 10 different crimes

A police officer was wounded as a result of gunfire from inside the residence during the teams' search operation. The wounded officer was taken to Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital.

While two of the suspects at the address were taken into custody by police teams, one suspect resisted with a weapon. It was determined that the suspect, who was shot by the teams, had died. The attacker, identified as E.E., was found to have 10 active arrest warrants, primarily for "Intentional Homicide."

The police investigation at the address is ongoing.

STATEMENT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Istanbul Police Department provided the following information in a written statement regarding the incident:

"On 03.10.2024, at approximately 17:00, an operation was conducted at a residence in the Tepeören neighborhood of Tuzla district as part of efforts to apprehend wanted individuals.

During the operation, shots were fired from inside the residence, and as a result of the gunfire, a police officer was seriously wounded. The wounded police officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, and their life remains in danger.

In the operation, which continued with special operations units, the individual named E.E. was neutralized (killed), and individuals named F.I. and Ç.G. were apprehended and taken into custody. In the background check conducted on the individuals, it was determined that the deceased, E.E., had 10 active arrest warrants, primarily for 'Intentional Homicide.'

Among the apprehended individuals, it was determined that Ç.G. was wanted for violating Law No. 6136 (Firearms and Knives Act), and F.I. had a record for 'Fraud.'

During the searches conducted at the residence, one Utaş brand automatic pistol, two 9mm caliber pistols, a large number of cartridges, and a quantity of narcotics were seized. The investigation into the individuals apprehended regarding the matter is ongoing.

Minister Yerlikaya shared the following statement on his social media account regarding the attack on the police officers:

Today, during an operation conducted against wanted individuals in our Tuzla district, fire was opened on our police officers, and as a result of the gunfire, our police officer Adem Köş was wounded.

I wish a speedy recovery to our heroic police officer Adem, who was wounded in the operation. Our nation's prayers are with you.

May God protect our police officers who serve at the cost of their lives for the peace and security of our country.
