President of the Palestinian Bar Association reacts to the conflict in Palestine via the Istanbul Bar Association

Upon the request of President of the Palestinian Bar Association Fadi Abbas, an online meeting was held with President of the Istanbul Bar Association Atty. Filiz Saraç on 23.01.2024.

Abbas addressed the whole world through the Istanbul Bar Association and described the oppression being experienced.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Spokesperson of the Istanbul Bar Association Foreign Relations Center Atty. Yusuf Can Delipınar, Palestinian Bar President Fadi Abbas made statements regarding the dire conditions they are in, the losses they have suffered in the ongoing conflict, particularly children, and the destruction in Gaza.

President of the Istanbul Bar Association Atty. Filiz Saraç made the following statements on behalf of the Istanbul Bar Association and all its lawyers:

"What is happening in Palestine deeply saddens us as a crime committed against all of humanity. Immediately following these events, we sent letters to numerous international legal institutions and associations, including the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe, the International Bar Association, and the Federation of European Bars, of which we are a founder and member, inviting them to be the voice of peace and law. In the letters we sent, we clearly stated that the targeting of hospitals and civilians constitutes the crime of genocide. We presented what is happening to the public's attention through press releases.

November 20, World Children's Day, was dedicated to the children who died in Gaza. As a legal institution with a 146-year history, we cannot remain indifferent to what is happening.

The understanding of 'Peace at home, peace in the world' by our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whose path we follow, emphasizes the importance of peace to us under all circumstances. While sharing our deep sorrow regarding these events, we, as the Istanbul Bar Association, emphasize that we will follow the developments in Gaza and that we stand in solidarity with your Bar and our colleagues. These conflicts and the deaths of civilians, especially children, must come to an end."
