Prison sentence for Murat Övüç over headscarf video
A verdict has been reached in the trial of social media influencer Murat Övüç regarding a video he filmed while wearing a headscarf. Övüç was sentenced to 11 months in prison.
The verdict has been announced in the trial opened against social media influencer Murat Övüç on the grounds that he filmed a video while wearing a headscarf.
The court sentenced Övüç to 11 months in prison for the crime of "publicly degrading the religious values adopted by a section of the public." No reduction was applied to the sentence, and it was stated that there was no room for the deferment of the announcement of the verdict.

According to reports by İsmail Saymaz from Halktv.com.tr, the court also did not apply provisions regarding the suspension of the sentence.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Murat Övüç, who was tried on charges of "publicly inciting the people to hatred and hostility" due to the post he made while wearing a headscarf, was arrested on December 20 and released on April 1 under judicial control conditions.
