Pro-government columnist Abdulkadir Selvi makes claim about DEM Party: 'It turns out it wasn't the PKK...'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to "come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in Parliament and declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been dissolved" continues to dominate the agenda.

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, known for his proximity to the government, criticized the statements coming from the DEM Party wing following Bahçeli's call.

In his column today, Hürriyet writer Selvi wrote, "On a day when Devlet Bahçeli made historic statements regarding Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood, a statement came from the DEM Party that harms the process. Politics requires responsibility. At a time when Turkey is opening the door to a new process, the duty falling to the DEM Party should not have been to bring up the PKK's demands, but on the contrary, to offer a perspective on the new process. But the DEM thinks it will grow stronger politically with a statement made in a condescending, aggressive, and spoiled tone. But they are mistaken. By surrendering their will to Qandil, they are pushing away the opportunity to be an important actor in the new process with the back of their hand. Didn't you say Öcalan's will was your will?" he asked.

Selvi stated, "When I saw the DEM Party's statement, I couldn't help but think, 'We were wrong; it turns out it wasn't the PKK, but the DEM Party that didn't want to lay down its arms.'"
