Prof. Dr. Cangül Örnek issues harsh 'Code 48' reaction to CHP leadership
Prof. Dr. Cangül Örnek has accused the CHP leadership of firing party employees without severance pay using 'Code 48' due to political disagreements. Targeting the current leadership with harsh words, Örnek argued that the practice is incompatible with labor rights and pointed out that the dismissed employees also lose their rights to severance and unemployment benefits.
Prof. Dr. Cangül Örnek has leveled harsh criticism at the CHP leadership, stating that employees who have served the party for many years are being dismissed without severance pay under 'Code 48' on the grounds of political disagreements.
"A BOSS WHO HAS LOST THEIR HUMANITY"
Describing the current CHP leadership as a "trustee," Örnek emphasized that the dismissal decisions are incompatible with labor rights. Arguing that party employees are being victimized solely due to political differences, Prof. Dr. Örnek included the following striking remarks in her statement to the public:
"The CHP's trustee is also a boss who has lost their humanity. Can any good come to this country's laborers from people who fire the party's long-serving workers without severance pay using Code 48 just because they opposed you politically?"
WHAT DOES 'CODE 48', THE FOCUS OF THE ALLEGATIONS, MEAN?
One of the most significant details in Prof. Dr. Örnek's reaction is that the dismissals were carried out using Code 48.
Loss of Severance Rights: Code 48, which is among the Social Security Institution (SGK) exit codes, covers situations where the employer exercises the right to immediate termination for just cause. An employee dismissed with this code cannot receive severance or notice pay, even if they have worked at the same institution for years.
Obstacle to Unemployment Benefits: Workers dismissed under Code 48 are also unable to apply for unemployment benefits through İŞKUR.
