Prof. Dr. Ercan reveals Istanbul's soil map! Is your home safe?
Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan published a geophysical map showing the city's soil durability. Calling on citizens to "find your location on the map and evaluate it," Ercan drew attention by stating, "The solution is a solid structure on solid ground."
Following the 6.2 magnitude tremor that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, earthquake experts continue to share their assessments. Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan shared a "geophysical map" regarding Istanbul's soil structure and earthquake risk on his social media account.
On the map, the city's residential areas are classified by colors according to their soil response during an earthquake and their suitability for construction. Prof. Dr. Ercan stated, "Find the location of your building on the map and evaluate it. Share it so everyone can benefit."

WHAT DO THE COLORS MEAN?
Ercan also explained what the colors on the map he shared mean. Accordingly;
Dark Blue: The most durable, safest places.
Green: Durable, safe places.
Yellow: Non-durable, unsafe places.
Brown: The least durable, most unsafe places.
"THE SOLUTION IS A SOLID STRUCTURE ON SOLID GROUND"
Stating that 65 percent of building collapses are caused by the soil and 35 percent by the structure itself, Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan issued a warning, saying, "The solution is a solid structure on solid ground."
