Prosecutor's statement of Nusret Yılmaz, one of İmamoğlu's lawyers, has emerged: 'I have been a jurist for 32 years'

It has emerged that in his statement to the prosecutor, Yılmaz said: "I have been a jurist for approximately 32 years, including as a judge. I have always taken care not to engage in any act that would bring shame upon me... I have never been involved in any unjust gain throughout my life. I believe that, within the scope of the questions directed at me, my statement should be taken here as a witness at most, not as a suspect."

Nusret Yılmaz, the lawyer for Republican People's Party (CHP) presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu — whose university diploma was annulled on 18 March and who was detained the following day and arrested on 23 March — and his wife Dr. Dilek İmamoğlu, was detained in his hometown of Trabzon as part of the investigation into the İBB. Lawyer Nusret Yılmaz, a childhood friend of Ekrem İmamoğlu, was charged with "brokering bribery." Yılmaz was brought under custody to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan and, following his questioning by the prosecutor, was referred to the Magistrate's Court with a request that judicial supervision be applied in the form of a travel ban and a requirement to sign in. The court ruled that Yılmaz be released under judicial supervision as requested, in the form of a travel ban and a requirement to sign in. The file was also returned to the prosecutor's office.

"I CATEGORICALLY REJECT IT"

It has emerged that at the prosecutor's office, Yılmaz was asked questions relating to the allegations of businessman Emrullah Turanlı and Yakup Öner, who is benefiting from effective remorse provisions, and that Yılmaz rejected the charges. Yılmaz is reported to have said the following:

"I have been a jurist for approximately 32 years, including as a judge. I have always taken care not to engage in any act that would bring shame upon me. I have approached the entire matter with the sensitivity of a jurist, measured by right, law, and propriety. I believe that all documents and all information relating to my personal and family finances can be accessed. I have never been involved in any unjust gain throughout my life. I believe that, within the scope of the questions directed at me, my statement should be taken here as a witness at most, not as a suspect. I categorically reject any charge levelled against me."
