Prosecutor who ordered singer Gülşen's arrest faces assault trial from ex-wife

The case, heard at the Tekirdağ 4th High Criminal Court, was opened following allegations that prosecutor Türkşad Kunthan Uçuk physically assaulted his ex-wife. Following allegations that emerged after a question from CHP MP Turan Taşkın Özer, it was requested that Uçuk be sentenced to up to 2 years and 2 months in prison.

The indictment alleges that prosecutor Uçuk assaulted his ex-wife in a car while taking their child to a doctor's appointment. His ex-wife obtained a medical report for the assault following the incident, and statements from witnesses to the event were also included in the indictment. According to the report, the victim's injuries were of a nature that could be treated with simple medical intervention.

According to a report by Canan Coşkun from Kısa Dalga, Uçuk categorically denied the accusations against him, stating that he "did not assault his ex-wife." Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office issued a decision of non-prosecution regarding complaints of "threats" and "insults" filed by the ex-wife.

The parliamentary question submitted by MP Özer was instrumental in bringing the case to light. According to the motion, allegations were also listed that prosecutor Uçuk had taken out large loans in his ex-wife's name, gambled in Cyprus, and left the debts to his wife. It was also asked whether the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) had made an administrative decision regarding the events and whether Uçuk was still in office.

The Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced in its indictment dated May 12, 2026, that the case was opened only on the charge of "simple assault" and that no action was taken regarding the other allegations.

Uçuk, who came to the public's attention with the arrest of Gülşen in 2022, had previously filed lawsuits against Barış Terkoğlu, Barış Pehlivan, Ersan Atar, Sezgin Kesim, Doğan Ergün, İzel Sezer, and Nazan Özcan. He had also ordered the detention of journalists Sedef Kabaş and Hayri Tunç.

Another famous figure Uçuk summoned for testimony was Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör. Uçuk had accused Şengör of "publicly insulting religious values" due to remarks made on a television program.
