Protest by Seydişehir Eti Alüminyum workers continues

Workers at Seydişehir Alüminyum, a metal factory that is Turkey's primary aluminum producer and was privatized and sold to Cengiz Holding in 2005, are demanding their rights.

WORKERS DECIDE TO PROTEST

Hundreds of workers at the Eti Alüminyum factory, which operates in the Seydişehir district of Konya, began a resistance on Wednesday night after the employer's wage increase offer failed to meet the workers' expectations.

According to a report in soL, workers at Seydişehir Eti Alüminyum are employed in a heavy industry sector for wages that are very low compared to other factories in the same sector.

The workers decided to take action against a 56 percent raise in the face of salaries melting away due to high inflation, financial hardship, high rent prices in Seydişehir, and ever-increasing food prices.

STATEMENT FROM 'PATRONLARIN ENSESİNDEYİZ' (WE ARE ON THE BOSSES' NECKS)

The Patronların Ensesindeyiz Metal Workers Solidarity Network issued a statement on the matter, warning Cengiz Holding:

"The Seydişehir Alüminyum factory, which was built with the taxes and labor of the people and handed over to Cengiz Holding, must be returned to the public and nationalized immediately. Do not worry, the laborers of this country know very well how to produce not for Cengiz, but for their own country.

The demands of the Seydişehir Eti Alüminyum workers for a humane life must be met immediately.

The Patronların Ensesindeyiz Metal Workers Solidarity Network stands with the resisting metal workers!’’
