Protestors demanding justice in retirement hold 'shroud' demonstration in Kadıköy

Individuals insured after September 8, 1999, who could not benefit from the EYT regulation and are required to wait until age 58 for women and 60 for men to retire, gathered with demands for "Graduated Retirement" 

at the Kadıköy Pier.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Association for Justice in Retirement (EMADDER), President Mihriban Uğurlu addressed the grievances caused by the retirement age increasing by 17 years due to a single day's difference, as well as the problems faced in working life.

Uğurlu stated the following:

"Is 43 years old greater, or 49 years old? Is 5,000 days of premiums more, or 8,500 days of premiums?

Currently in Turkey, a 43-year-old with 5,000 days of premiums retires, while a 49-year-old with 8,500 days of premiums must work for another 9 years.

Who retires: the one who is 43, or the one who is 49?

Is there any academic, bureaucrat, Social Security Institution (SGK) expert, or SGK inspector who can answer this question of mine?"

Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and Kadıköy Mayoral candidate Mesut Kösedağı also attended the press statement, where some protestors wore shrouds and carried signs reading "No to retirement in the grave" and "Graduated retirement before wearing a shroud."
