Provinces and districts where education is suspended following snowfall

In the Keşan, İpsala, and Enez districts of Edirne, schools have been closed for 1 day by decisions of the Public Health Board. It was reported that due to the snowfall affecting Keşan, the District Public Health Board, convened under the chairmanship of Keşan District Governor Cemalettin Yılmaz, decided to suspend education for 1 day.

According to the decision taken by the District Public Health Board, it was stated that all primary and secondary schools, including private educational institutions and kindergartens, in the district center, towns, and villages will be closed for 1 day on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Additionally, it was noted that pregnant women and disabled citizens working in the public sector will also be considered on administrative leave for 1 day.

1-DAY SNOW HOLIDAY FOR SCHOOLS IN UZUNKÖPRÜ

In the Uzunköprü district of Edirne, primary and secondary schools have been closed for 1 day due to heavy snowfall and storms. In a statement made by the Uzunköprü District Directorate of National Education, it was stated that education in primary and secondary schools was suspended on Wednesday, January 10, due to the ongoing heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions in the district.

SCHOOLS CLOSED IN SOME DISTRICTS OF TEKİRDAĞ

In Tekirdağ, schools in some districts have been closed for tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions. In a statement from the Provincial Directorate of National Education, it was stated that according to meteorological reports, education will be suspended in some districts tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions.

The statement included the following: "Education has been suspended for 1 day on Wednesday, January 10, in all official and private schools in our Süleymanpaşa, Malkara, Muratlı, Ergene, and Hayrabolu districts, and for 1 day on Wednesday, January 10, for our students covered by bused education in the Şarköy district."

ÇANAKKALE

In Çanakkale, bused education has been suspended for 1 day throughout the province today due to adverse weather conditions and expected snowfall. In a statement made by the Çanakkale Governorship, it was said, "Due to adverse weather conditions and expected snowfall, bused education will be suspended for 1 day throughout our province on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Again, education will be suspended for 1 day tomorrow in our village schools throughout the province (as most of the teachers working in these schools commute daily from provincial and district centers, and the majority of their students access education through busing).

The decision to suspend education other than bused education will be evaluated and taken by our District Governorships on a district basis according to the conditions that arise, and these decisions will be shared with the public as soon as possible. Furthermore, on the same day, pregnant personnel and disabled personnel throughout the province will be considered on administrative leave."

WARNING FROM AKOM

The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has issued a warning for snow and sleet in the northern and higher parts of the city.

Temperatures are expected to drop by 8-10 degrees across Istanbul. Rain showers will also be seen in the city. Air temperatures in Istanbul are expected to remain 2-5 degrees below seasonal norms until January 16, and around seasonal norms between January 17 and 25.
