Published in the Official Gazette! Those phrases will no longer appear on food labels

The Regulation on Amending the Turkish Food Codex Regulation on Food Labeling and Consumer Information, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

Accordingly, on the label of a food product that uses flavorings entirely instead of food ingredients in its production, images of the actual food related to the flavoring cannot be used.

The name of the food will now be written in the same font size, style, and character in a place where the consumer will see it at first glance on the shelf. The use of misleading images on food labels will not be permitted.

For foods that resemble each other and could be confused by consumers, phrases such as "... flavored," "... taste," or "... pleasure" will not be allowed. Phrases like "butter pleasure" or "butter taste" will not be permitted on vegetable margarine.

Food business operators will be required to comply with the changes by December 31, 2026. Non-compliant food products will not be allowed on the market after that date.
