Putin calls the bluff: We will continue the tests

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with defense industry representatives and missile system developers today, against the backdrop of escalating tensions with Ukraine.

During the meeting, Putin made a statement regarding the new Oreshnik missile launched at a military facility in Ukraine. Stating that Ukraine's use of US ballistic missiles and British cruise missiles to strike Russia triggered this move, Putin said, "I must add that there is currently no means in the world to counter or intercept such a missile (Oreshnik). I emphasize once again: We will continue to test this new system. It is necessary to move to mass production," adding that they also possess a ready-to-use stockpile.

Noting that the Oreshnik missile is not a strategic nuclear weapon, Putin said, "Thanks to its striking power, especially when used in groups and in conjunction with other long-range systems possessed by Russia, the results of its use against enemy targets will be comparable to a strategic weapon in terms of impact and power."
