Rain wave from the Balkans intensifies its impact on Istanbul and Marmara

Following days of sweltering heat, Turkey is witnessing a new shift in weather patterns. The rainy weather system entering the country via the Balkans has begun to take effect across the entire Marmara region, starting from Thrace. The Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for Çanakkale, Edirne, Istanbul, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ. Due to the current system, downpours and storms are expected in these provinces.

Meteorological officials stated that the weather will be partly to very cloudy in the northern, inner, and western regions, and that thunderstorms will be seen in the Marmara region as well as in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean, and the surroundings of Kütahya, Konya, Karaman, Artvin, Kars, Ardahan, and Iğdır.

BEWARE OF FLASH FLOOD AND HAIL RISK

The intensity of the rainfall is expected to increase, particularly in the afternoon hours in Thrace and on the European side of Istanbul. Experts have advised citizens to be prepared for risks such as flash floods, water inundation, lightning strikes, localized hail, and increased wind speeds.

In a statement released by AKOM, it was shared that the rainfall will manifest itself across Istanbul towards noon and will be strong and locally intense at intervals until 18:00 in the evening.

Temperatures will drop significantly in the Marmara Region. According to forecasts, air temperatures in this region will decrease by 4 to 6 degrees; no significant change is expected in other regions.

Authorities have once again warned citizens not to go out during risky hours unless necessary, to park vehicles in safe areas, and to follow warnings carefully.
