The spending by the Presidential Protection Department in the first 7 months of 2025 exceeded 1 billion 740 million TL. The figures reveal that daily expenses amount to 8.2 million TL, which is equivalent to 375 minimum wages.
The AKP government has long been the target of criticism from the opposition and the public due to high public spending. In particular, the budget of the Presidential Palace and the security expenses of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are among the most debated items.
RECORD LEVEL OF SECURITY EXPENSES IN 7 MONTHS
According to the financial statements of the General Directorate of Security, the Presidential Protection Department, to which the presidential bodyguards are attached, spent 1 billion 740 million 819 thousand TL in the January-July period of 2025.
This amount revealed a significant increase when compared to previous years.
According to the report by Cengiz Karagöz from Halktv, the expenditure was recorded as 1 billion 353 million 702 thousand TL in the same period of 2024, and only 583 million 491 thousand TL in 2023.
8.2 MILLION TL EVERY DAY
The data shows that an average of 248 million 688 thousand TL per month, and 8 million 289 thousand TL per day, is spent to protect Erdoğan. This amount points to a massive budget equivalent to 375 minimum wages in a single day.
