Red alert warning from Meteorology: Heavy rainfall is coming

In a statement released today, the General Directorate of Meteorology announced that locally very heavy and, in some places, intense downpours are expected in the areas surrounding Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun. According to the warning, rainfall could reach up to 100 kilograms per square meter in these provinces. In the regions under a red alert, there is a risk of riverbeds overflowing and landslides. Citizens have been urged to be cautious and take precautions.

Experts state that these intense rains could lead to flash floods, inundations, lightning strikes, local hail, disruptions in transportation, and landslides, particularly in sloped areas.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE TODAY?

According to the daily weather forecast from the Meteorology office, partly to very cloudy weather is expected in the northern, inner, and eastern parts of Turkey. Local showers and thunderstorms will be seen in the northeastern part of Central Anatolia, the Central and Eastern Black Sea, the north of Eastern Anatolia, and the areas surrounding Kastamonu, Karabük, and Sinop.

In other regions, the weather will generally be clear and slightly cloudy. No significant change is expected in air temperatures. Temperatures will remain below seasonal norms in the inner and eastern parts, while they will hover around seasonal norms in the western regions.

OTHER PROVINCES UNDER HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING

In addition to Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun, heavy rainfall is also expected in the areas surrounding Amasya, Tokat, Bayburt, Ardahan, and Erzurum. Citizens in these regions also need to be cautious against negative conditions such as floods, inundations, lightning, and transportation disruptions.

WIND INCREASES FIRE RISK IN THE AEGEAN AND MEDITERRANEAN

The Meteorology office stated that the wind will continue to be effective throughout the day in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions. It was noted that the wind could facilitate the spread of flames, especially in areas at risk of fire. Teams involved in firefighting efforts need to be cautious against winds that may suddenly change direction and strengthen.

REGIONS UNDER STRONG WIND WARNING

The wind is expected to blow from the north as strong and short-term storms (40-70 km/h) in the southwest of Marmara, the North Aegean coasts, the east of Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Eastern Mediterranean, the southwestern parts of Eastern Anatolia, and the areas surrounding Adıyaman.
