Regulation for police housing and working hours: Minister Çiftçi announced the details

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi made evaluations regarding the agenda on the "Hafta Sonu" (Weekend) program hosted by Hakan Çelik on CNN Türk. Stating that they are preparing a regulation for the working conditions of police officers, Çiftçi made statements regarding the overtime practice and housing projects.

WORKING HOURS AND OVERTIME ON THE AGENDA

Expressing that they are carrying out preparations to improve the working conditions of police officers, Çiftçi stated that the current legal regulation is insufficient to meet the needs.

Regarding the overtime system and housing efforts, Çiftçi used the following expressions:

"Living conditions in Istanbul are more expensive compared to our other provinces. We said, 'Let's go for housing procurement in Istanbul and allocate them to our police officers.' I gave the instruction. We continue to look. We will continue to buy as we find them. We are stopping vehicle purchases this year; we will buy housing. We will start with 600 housing units as a beginning.

We want to regulate working hours to relieve our police regarding overtime. After switching to the new shift system, we have efforts to make payments to those who work overtime. The current law has started to become too tight for the organization. Regulations will be made."

SECURITY MEASURES AT THE NATO SUMMIT

In his statements, Çiftçi also touched upon the security measures taken within the scope of the NATO Summit. Stating that a total of 56 thousand 288 police and gendarmerie personnel served at the summit, Çiftçi said that preparations began about a month in advance.

In his evaluation regarding security planning, he used the following expressions:

"The NATO summit was one of the largest organizations in recent years. The previous one in Istanbul took place in 2004. In this summit, 56 thousand 288 of our police and gendarmerie organizations took part. We took Ankara as the center. We had a core region in Ankara. A 3-layered and 3-stage protocol was implemented. The provinces around Ankara. Surrounding the provinces, our border cities. Our measures started 1 month in advance. We reached the peak when we entered the last 72 hours. There were those who said it was exaggerated. We took as many measures as needed. We got through it without any problems. We took as many measures as needed. If we hadn't taken them, they would have questioned this. We say it was an important summit. We could not have explained a measure we did not take."
