Release decision in İzmir electrocution tragedy
In the trial regarding the 2 people who lost their lives after being electrocuted during heavy rain in İzmir, İZSU officials have been released. The court lifted the judicial control conditions for the İZSU officials among the 42 defendants and adjourned the case to March 6. Prison sentences of up to 22.5 years are being sought for the 42 defendants.
A significant development has occurred in the trial regarding the 2 people who lost their lives after being electrocuted while trying to escape heavy rain in the Konak district of İzmir.
The court decided to release Ömer Karabilgin, Branch Manager of the İZSU Sewerage Department, and Barış Koç, İZSU Sewerage Manager.
While 13 of the 42 defendants in the case are being tried while in custody, the prosecutor requested the continuation of their detention and asked for an expert report to be obtained. The court decided to lift the house arrest of İZSU personnel Ezgi Nazaroğlu and to terminate the judicial control conditions for İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan and former General Manager Ali Hıdır Köseoğlu.
The court ruled that permission must be obtained from the necessary institutions regarding the trial of the civil servants and ordered the separation of the files of 6 individuals.
While the case was adjourned to March 6, prison sentences of up to 22.5 years in total are being sought for the 42 defendants.
