Release in nightclub fire trial that left 29 dead
A release decision has been issued in the trial of 9 defendants regarding the nightclub fire in Beşiktaş that resulted in the loss of 29 lives.
A fire broke out on April 2 during renovations at a nightclub named 'Masquerade' in Beşiktaş, resulting in the deaths of 29 workers.
As part of the investigation launched into the fire, a lawsuit was filed against 9 defendants, 7 of whom were in custody, seeking prison sentences ranging from 2 years to 22 years and 5 months each.
THE FIRST HEARING OF THE CASE BEGAN TODAY
The first hearing of the case, opened at the Istanbul 33rd High Criminal Court, was held today in the courtroom located within the Marmara Penal Execution Institutions.
The 7 defendants in custody and 2 defendants pending trial without custody attended the hearing. During the hearing, 2 of the defendants in custody were released under judicial control conditions.
