Remarkable statement on the penal system from MHP's Feti Yıldız! 'The concept of rehabilitation has been abandoned...'

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız made a remarkable assessment regarding penal law. Yıldız emphasized that penalties should not be just a sanction, but a tool for recovery for both society and the individual.

"PUNISHMENT IS A TOOL"

Sharing on his social media account, Yıldız stated that punishment is not an end in itself, saying, "It is a tool used to achieve the goals expected from punishment."

"THE ESSENTIAL THING IS TO REINTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY"

Yıldız stated that the main purpose of punishment is to increase citizens' awareness of acting in accordance with the law, to prevent individuals from committing crimes again, and most importantly, to re-socialize prisoners.

"THE CONCEPT OF REHABILITATION HAS BEEN ABANDONED"

Expressing that the concept of rehabilitation alone has been left behind in today's penal law, Yıldız used the expressions, "It has been replaced by an approach that aims for prisoners to return to society as healthy individuals."

"RAPID ADAPTATION TO SOCIETY MUST BE ENSURED"

Stating that penal policy now takes as its basis the ability of prisoners to adapt to social life, Yıldız said, "Staying away from crime with a sense of social responsibility and establishing healthy relationships in civilian life is the main goal of the modern penal regime. Opportunities should not be given to things that erode the goal of socializing prisoners."
