Residents of collapsed building in Konya recount the moments: 'Columns are cracking, get out'
Muhammet Veli Kahya, who managed to get his wife and child out of the 4-story building that collapsed in Konya just in time, said the building collapsed while he had returned to save his neighbors.
Stating that he arrived quickly after hearing the news that they were evacuating the building, Kahya said, “When I arrived, my family was still around the building. We immediately moved them away. There were sounds coming from the building.
Before me, my friend Muhammet went upstairs to get his father. As I was going upstairs, they were talking on the balcony. Since I don't know Arabic, I couldn't tell them. I just said come.
I looked and there was no key. As I was heading out, the building suddenly collapsed. At that moment, I was trapped between the columns. Later, the police arrived and pulled me out. However, my friends remained inside,” he said.

"THE JANITOR WARNED US"
Faik Dal, who lived in the building, explained that the janitor had warned them, saying, “I was sitting with my girlfriend. The janitor came and said the columns are cracking, get out of the building immediately. They had already said 3 days ago that the building might collapse. We went outside and waited for about 45 minutes. Then there were cracking sounds from the building and it suddenly collapsed,” he said.
