Resignation in Yeniden Refah, which finished the local elections as the 3rd party

The CHP, which received 37.76% of the vote nationwide, finished the election in first place. While the CHP emerged as the leading party in the elections for the first time in 44 years, the AKP lost an election for the first time in 22 years.

On the other hand, the Yeniden Refah Party (YRP), which participated in local elections for the first time in its history, rose to the position of the third party by receiving 6.19% of the vote nationwide.

Furthermore, the YRP achieved a major surprise by winning the mayoralties of Yozgat and Şanlıurfa.

Temel Peker, the Konya Provincial Chairman of the Yeniden Refah Party, which became the second party in Konya—an AKP stronghold—with 23.46% of the vote and won 6 districts, announced that he has resigned.

"BECAUSE THE 35 PERCENT VOTE TARGET WAS NOT REACHED..."

In the announcement he made on his social media account, Peker stated that he was taking responsibility because the 35 percent vote target was not reached.

The announcement stated, "As you are aware, I began my duty as Konya Provincial Chairman on 01.08.2023 with the approval of our Yeniden Refah Party Chairman, Dr. Fatih Erbakan. When we took office, our number of members in Konya was 5,055. We rapidly organized and urgently appointed well-equipped and qualified provincial board members with solid operational mechanisms.

As a result of the determined and diligent work of our appointed district chairmen and organizations, we increased our number of members in Konya by over 600 percent, reaching 32 thousand. In the 2023 General Elections, our Yeniden Refah Party had received 5 percent of the vote in Konya.

In the March 31, 2024 Local Administration elections, we achieved an upward momentum with a vote share of 23.50 percent, an increase of over 350 percent compared to the previous general election. With this vote share, we managed to win the mayoralties of 6 of our districts.

Unfortunately, as our executive board, we could not reach the 35 percent vote target we had aimed for. As the Konya Provincial Presidency and organization, I attribute this failure primarily to myself and take responsibility without hiding behind any excuses. As a result of the joint decision we made with our executive board, we are presenting our collective resignation to the public."
