Resignation over 'indictment' claim in Zafer Party
A claim that an indictment had been prepared against Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ has led to a resignation from the party.
Jülide Sarıkaya, a member of the Zafer Party Founders' Board and the General Administrative Board (GİK), had stated that an indictment against Ümit Özdağ was ready. Following the denial of this statement by both Özdağ and the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Sarıkaya announced her resignation.
General Administrative Board member Jülide Sarıkaya, who met with her party's chairman, Özdağ, in Silivri, had stated: "I just spoke with him (Özdağ). His health was good, and his morale was very high. He said that the indictment was ready and its acceptance was awaited, and that it should be approved. He said the indictment was ready and told me that I should convey this to the General Administrative Board."
Following this statement, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an update; prosecution officials announced that the indictment had not yet been prepared.
Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ had stated that the remarks made by Sarıkaya were due to a "lack of legal knowledge."
"I AM SUBMITTING MY RESIGNATION"
Following these developments, Zafer Party member Jülide Sarıkaya noted the following in a statement on her social media account:
"I apologize to the entire public and to Zafer Party members, especially our Chairman, Mr. Ümit Özdağ... Due to this mistake, I am submitting my resignation from my GİK membership to the discretion of our Chairman, Mr. Ümit Özdağ.
Respectfully"
