Resignation statement from IYI Party's IMM candidate Buğra Kavuncu

Sharing a press release on his social media account, Kavuncu announced that he has resigned from his position as the IYI Party's Organization President.

Buğra Kavuncu will continue his duties as an IYI Party Istanbul Member of Parliament.

BUĞRA KAVUNCU USED THE FOLLOWING EXPRESSIONS IN HIS POST:

The March 31 local election results showed that the race in metropolitan cities generally took place between two parties, and voters, rather than voting for the candidate they wanted, turned to the strongest candidate against the party or candidate they did not want.

Another situation is that in many of the metropolitan cities where alliances were previously formed, such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, and Adana, party affiliation has almost disappeared. It is evident that the alliance system strengthens large parties while eroding parties with slightly lower vote shares.

It is important for a party that does not have a rigid ideological view, that is reasonable, that determines its policy by facing the realities of life, and that is positioned in the center, to assert itself in local governments in order to maintain its existence. Otherwise, it carries the risk of becoming an apparatus for another party. The election results have confirmed this once again.

As is known, our party decided to enter the March 31 local elections without an alliance after the general elections, and the candidate determination process began across the country. During this process, apart from some names reflected in the public eye, there were no other requests for candidacy for Istanbul. When there was no development in this direction within the party, the task fell to me. I gladly took on this responsibility for my party.

After the decision was made, I started my work and, with the claim that I would be a better mayor, I explained my projects without lowering the level. I listed my criticisms. There were even those who did not like my criticisms and found them insufficient, and those who expressed that I had gone too far in the public eye. Some claimed that I was wearing myself out by working in vain, while others claimed that I was deliberately not working. Despite all this, I tried to keep my party's name alive in the most honorable way I believed in and found correct, and I fought for it. However, we have to accept that we finished the elections with a result far below our expectations.

Under all these conditions, I am fulfilling my responsibility and resigning from my position as Organization President, which I have been carrying out for 8 months, both to ensure that our upcoming extraordinary congress can be held in a healthier and more democratic environment and in direct relation to the result we received in Istanbul.

If I need to answer some of the criticisms directed at me, especially within the party; a consensus was reached with my colleagues that my resignation decision, which I made on election night, should be announced after the statement our Chairman announced she would make on Monday. Therefore, I must state that I left this announcement until today.

I would like to express my gratitude to our Istanbul Provincial Chairman Yücel Coşkun, our Istanbul provincial and district organizations who have a clear conscience regarding standing behind me and working during this process, all my fellow travelers, and especially all the youth branches in the person of our Istanbul Youth Branch President Muhammet Akyüz.

Respectfully announced to the public.
