Response from CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik to AKP spokesperson: 'They should look at themselves first'

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made exclusive statements to 12punto. Özgür Çelik described the appointment of a trustee to the municipality following the detention of Esenyurt's elected Mayor Ahmet Özer as a "coup against the will of the nation."

Evaluating the events that took place three days ago, Çelik stated that Ahmet Özer was detained in the morning hours and that the door of the municipal building was broken down to gain entry. Çelik noted that Özer was arrested and sent to prison, and that a trustee was appointed to the Esenyurt Municipality during this process.

''WE WILL STAND AGAINST THE TRUSTEE COUP''

Özgür Çelik said that all members of parliament had come to Istanbul and held a meeting with their party leader. "Three days ago, we held a large rally in Esenyurt. From this stage on, as the Istanbul Provincial Organization, we are planning how we will carry out our struggle against the trustee," said Çelik, expressing that press statements will continue and that they will stand against this trustee coup with all CHP organizations.

We will explain this lawlessness to all of Esenyurt." He emphasized that Turkey's 20-year political administration is making an effort to create a new agenda every day to cover up the real problems of the people.

RESPONSE TO ÖMER ÇELİK

Özgür Çelik also responded to the allegations made by AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik regarding Ahmet Özer, saying, "If a process is being conducted based on allegations that Ahmet Özer met with members of a terrorist organization, there is almost no member of parliament within the AK Party who has not met with FETÖ. They should look at themselves first." Çelik stated that the real reason for the lawlessness is the trampling of the constitution and the failure to prosecute ministers involved in corruption.
