Response to claims that bills were issued without meter readings

The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) has responded to claims that have surfaced in the public eye regarding "bills being issued without reading meters." According to the statement made by the institution, all of these claims are baseless, and İSKİ continues to provide water and sewerage services without interruption, diligently completing approximately 75 million meter reading operations annually.

Recent reports suggested that invoices for certain subscriptions were issued without reading the meters or based on estimated consumption. However, İSKİ clearly rejected these claims. The statement emphasized that the meters belonging to the relevant subscribers were read regularly as always, and billing was conducted according to actual consumption amounts.

Furthermore, it was stated that the invoice changes experienced in certain subscriptions in the Zekeriyaköy and Uskumruköy neighborhoods of the Sarıyer district were carried out as a technical and legal necessity within the framework of applicable laws and court decisions. The institution announced that the invoices issued to subscribers in the region in question under Law No. 6360 were taken under objection and revised in accordance with court rulings.

The statement included the following remarks: "In recent days, news and posts that do not reflect the truth have appeared in some media outlets and on social media channels, claiming that the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration issues bills without reading meters. First and foremost, we would like to state that these claims are completely baseless.

Our administration provides 24/7 uninterrupted water and sewerage services throughout Istanbul and meticulously carries out approximately 75 million meter reading operations per year. The meters belonging to the subscription that is the subject of the news have also been read regularly, and the accrual process has been carried out according to the consumption amount; no invoices have been issued using the comparative (estimated) method.

On the other hand, invoices regarding subscriptions in the cooperative area located in the Zekeriyaköy and Uskumruköy neighborhoods of the Sarıyer district, where the contract in question is also located, have been taken under objection ex officio and reissued in line with court decisions rendered under Law No. 6360.

Therefore, there is no such thing as sending high bills, not reading meters, or issuing comparative bills as alleged in the news. The action taken consists solely of a technical and legal arrangement resulting from the implementation of a court decision. We kindly request that the public not give credence to baseless news published about our administration, which has been delivering potable quality water to the people of Istanbul without interruption from the past to the present and which enjoys the trust of the public."

İSKİ emphasized that citizens should rely on the institution's official statements regarding the unrealistic claims and that they should not give credence to baseless news.
