Response to Murat Kurum on 'earthquake' comes from Naci Görür: 'If you do not show the necessary care...'

As construction efforts continue in Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Hatay, Malatya, Antep, Adana, Kilis, Osmaniye, Diyarbakır, Urfa, and Elazığ, which were struck by the February 6 earthquakes, seismologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür addressed authorities regarding this region.

"I DO NOT DOUBT OUR MINISTER'S GOOD INTENTIONS, BUT..."

Commenting on his X account in response to a statement by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Görür said, "Mr. Murat Kurum said that in 2025, our 11 provinces that experienced the earthquake will no longer be referred to as an earthquake zone. I do not doubt our minister's good intentions and I understand what he means, but I am writing this to prevent any possibility of misunderstanding."

"IT WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE EARTHQUAKES"

Emphasizing that the 11 provinces that experienced the earthquake on February 6 are located on a plate boundary, Görür warned, "The Arabian, Anatolian, and African Plates. This boundary will remain a plate boundary for millions of years and will continue to produce earthquakes."

Addressing the authorities on this matter, Görür stated, "If you do not show the necessary care for that plate boundary and do not introduce planning, construction types, designs, architecture, building materials, engineering services, micro-zoning, soil, etc., specific to a plate boundary, and instead try to regulate it like any other place using only build-and-sell contractors, we will export the disaster you saw on February 6 to our future generations."
