Resul Emrah Şahan sends handwritten message: 'Our righteous struggle will continue'

Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan made a statement via social media following his detention. In the note he shared in his own handwriting, Şahan noted that he received the votes of 7 out of every 10 people in Şişli and stated, 'Our righteous struggle and journey will continue.'

Şahan was detained as part of an investigation launched into 7 people, including CHP presidential candidate hopeful and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Deputy Secretary General of the IMM Mahir Polat. The investigation includes allegations of 'aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization.'

In the handwritten note, Şahan stated the following:

''Dear residents of Şişli, I am doing very well. Our righteous struggle and journey will continue. I am a child of the Republic who has received the consent of approximately 7 out of 10 people in Şişli, where the National Struggle was born. For bright tomorrows, for the values of the Republic, we will meet with freedom shoulder to shoulder with you.''

Speaking to Hazal Güven from 12punto, Şahan’s lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz stated that the detention period had been extended by one day and that they had objected to the search conducted at his home. Ersöz described the judicial process being carried out against Şahan and the others detained as 'full of arbitrariness.'

In the operations carried out yesterday morning, 1062 people, including İmamoğlu, Şahan, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, were detained. The interrogation of the detained individuals began today.
