Retaining wall collapses in Çekmeköy

Due to the heavy rainfall affecting Çekmeköy, Istanbul, the retaining wall of a building in the Çatalmeşe neighborhood collapsed.

The incident occurred around 04:00 at night.

During the collapse, local residents were awakened by a loud noise and immediately reported the situation to police and fire department teams.

The collapse of the wall, which was approximately 3 meters high and 20 meters long, damaged a parked car, a gazebo in the garden, and trees.

No one was injured during the incident.

Building residents claimed that the collapse of the retaining wall occurred because the contractor firm avoided costs by failing to build a curtain wall.

Aynur Erdem, a resident of the building who made a statement regarding the matter, said, "We woke up to a loud noise at night. We saw that our wall had collapsed; our cars and gazebo were damaged. Fortunately, the incident happened at night and no one was harmed."

While teams continue their investigations at the scene, residents of the building demanded that necessary measures be taken to prevent more serious accidents.
