Retired Court of Cassation member files lawsuit against TUIK
Seyfettin Çilesiz, a retired honorary member of the 7th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, has applied to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) to correct its data. Stating that he cannot make ends meet due to the low inflation data announced by TUIK, Çilesiz has initiated legal proceedings.
Seyfettin Çilesiz, a retired honorary member of the 7th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, has initiated legal proceedings, stating that he cannot make ends meet due to the low inflation data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
According to the report by Erdoğan Süzer from Sözcü, Çilesiz stated that his pension has eroded because of low raises based on official inflation data that does not reflect the reality of bazaars, markets, and grocery stores, and he has demanded that TUIK correct its inflation data.
Lawyer Ali Erdem Gündoğan, who submitted Çilesiz's application petition to TUIK, stated that they would file a lawsuit against TUIK if no response is provided within 30 days.
'IMAGINE THE STATE OF OTHER RETIREES'
Ali Erdem Gündoğan, one of the lawyers from the Ankara Bar Association who prepared the petition, stated that the pension of his client, Seyfettin Çilesiz, who retired in 2015, has decreased because TUIK calculates inflation at a very low rate.
Stating that his client has become unable to make ends meet with these payments, Gündoğan said, "If even a high-court member has been reduced to this state by TUIK, imagine the state of other retirees. If TUIK does not correct the inflation data or respond within 30 days, we will file a lawsuit in the administrative court. Anyone who has an interest can file a lawsuit against TUIK."
