Revealed in budget committee: One in every 5 people is in need of assistance!

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Planning and Budget Committee discussed the 2024 budget of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

The data shared by Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, who gave a presentation at the committee, once again revealed that millions of households are forced to live in dependence on social assistance.

REACHED 4 MILLION 400 THOUSAND

According to the reports of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the number of households receiving social assistance reached 4 million 400 thousand as of 2023. The number of individuals benefiting from social assistance was recorded as 17.6 million. It was stated that 3.5 million of the 4.4 million households benefiting from this aid are within the scope of "Regular social assistance."

EXCEEDED 160 THOUSAND THIS YEAR

The remarkable increase in the number of children whose basic needs cannot be met even while living with their families was reflected in the data of the Ministry of Family and Social Services. It was determined that the number of children who could not be cared for by their families exceeded 160 thousand in 2023.

In this context, it was stated that the number of children who could not be cared for by their families, which was 129 thousand 422 in 2020, 141 thousand 275 in 2021, and 155 thousand in 2022, reached 163 thousand 995 as of 2023.

The 2024 budget of the Ministry of Family and Social Services was discussed at the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee. During the discussions, it was revealed that more than 17 million citizens in the country are in need of assistance and are benefiting from social aid.
