Right-of-way dispute turns into a brawl
A right-of-way dispute in traffic in Maltepe quickly escalated into a violent incident, leading to police intervention after the parties involved filed complaints against each other.
In Istanbul's Maltepe district, a traffic dispute between a motorcycle rider and a female car driver on the evening of April 25 caused concern among local residents. The incident, which occurred around 6:15 PM on Başöğretmen Street, caused traffic to come to a standstill after allegations that a car had suddenly cut in front of the motorcycle, and the situation became chaotic as the argument intensified.
The motorcycle rider reacted by claiming that the car driver had squeezed him. The argument quickly heated up. It is alleged that the female driver repeatedly hit the motorcycle from behind with her car in an attempt to force it off the road. While the moment was recorded on a mobile phone, the motorcyclist attempted to document the events.
It was claimed that instead of calling the police, the female driver called her husband and friends. A group of 4 people who arrived at the scene shortly after caused the argument to escalate. In the moments reflected in the footage, the arriving group physically assaulted the motorcycle rider by grabbing his throat following verbal attacks. To protect himself against the attackers, the motorcyclist was forced to leave the scene.
Meanwhile, the group seized the motorcycle and held the vehicle hostage. Upon reports from local residents, police teams were dispatched to the area and intervened.
It was learned that the parties filed mutual complaints against each other, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident. The events that took place during the incident caused anxiety among the citizens in the surrounding area.
