Robert College responds to allegations in Epstein documents

The mention of Robert College, one of Turkey's oldest educational institutions, in files released to the public by the United States Department of Justice regarding Jeffrey Epstein has become a topic of discussion on social media. In response, the school administration issued a statement to address the questions raised in the community.

School headmaster Whitman Shepard underscored once again that Landon C. Thomas Jr., who is stated to have engaged in the correspondence in question, never held a position at Robert College. In his statement, Shepard said, "Landon C. Thomas Jr. is not, and has never been, an administrator or employee of our school. This individual, who was one of our board of trustees members in 2014, was removed from our board the moment his employment at the New York Times was terminated in 2019 due to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal."

The same statement also noted that the school did not receive any donations from Jeffrey Epstein and has no institutional connection with the individuals mentioned in the documents.

Among the details highlighted in the documents, an email dated November 7, 2014, stands out. In this email, journalist and former board of trustees member Landon C. Thomas Jr. is seen providing assessments to Epstein regarding the political climate and education system in Turkey. In his message, Thomas Jr. stated:

"In today's Turkey, where conservative Islam is infiltrating the education system, the mission of Robert College is more important than ever. We are increasing our efforts to explain the importance of our school in this government atmosphere."

In the same correspondence, it was understood that Thomas Jr. sought advice from Epstein on fundraising and brought up initiatives to make contact with various foundations and billionaires. Epstein's response to these assessments was recorded as, "Tell me more when we meet."

The Robert College administration emphasized that this correspondence does not represent the official perspective of the institution and that the personal thoughts of Thomas do not bind the school, reiterating that they have no organic connection to the files in which their name appears.
