RTÜK imposes multi-million lira fine on Survivor
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed a fine of 17 million 852 thousand 40 TL on the competition program Survivor, broadcast on TV8, citing 'discussions and images involving violence.' It was learned that the fine corresponds to 3 percent of the channel's revenue from December 2024.
RTÜK stated that the Survivor program contained 'content encouraging violence' and issued a fine to the competition. In the decision, which stated that the principle of 'broadcasts encouraging violence cannot be made' found in the RTÜK law was violated, it was announced that a fine of 3 percent of TV8's total revenue in December 2024, which was 595 million 67 thousand 983 TL, was imposed. This rate corresponds to 17 million 852 thousand 40 TL.
The 17.8 million TL fine imposed on TV8 was calculated based on the channel's revenue. According to the RTÜK law, channels that broadcast content encouraging violence can be fined between 1 and 5 percent of their monthly revenue. With this decision, the institution applied a 'medium-level' punitive sanction.

In the decision, it was claimed that the Survivor program contained 'images containing more violence than real life,' and the following statements were used:
'Viewers witness various violent incidents such as fights, murder, suicide, extortion, assault, sexual harassment, and torture in media content. The impact of the media on the increase in violent incidents in daily life is being debated.'
The fine imposed on Survivor corresponds to 3 percent of this rate. Survivor has previously received fines from RTÜK for similar reasons.
TV8 channel owner and producer of the program Acun Ilıcalı has not made a statement regarding the decision.
