RTÜK issues statement regarding armed attack on school in Şanlıurfa
Following the armed attack at a high school in Şanlıurfa, RTÜK issued a warning regarding broadcasts, stating that only official statements should be taken into account and that social sensitivities must be observed.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has issued a statement regarding broadcasts concerning the armed attack that occurred at a high school in Şanlıurfa. The Council emphasized that, in order to prevent misinformation, only statements made by authorized authorities should be taken as a basis.
In a post shared via RTÜK's social media account, the importance of considering social sensitivities was highlighted, stating: "Regarding the regrettable incident that took place at an educational institution in Şanlıurfa, the following points must be strictly adhered to in accordance with the broadcasting principles under Law No. 6112: Images of the moment of the incident and traumatic content must absolutely not be shared. Any information or visuals that could violate the privacy of victims, students, and their families, or reveal their identities, must be avoided. In order to avoid causing misinformation, only statements from authorized authorities should be taken as a basis, and a level-headed language should be used. Legal sanction processes will be immediately initiated against broadcasts that do not observe social sensitivities and the mental health of children."
