Scandal in neonatal intensive care unit: 'Pull the tube, let them go'

Scandal in neonatal intensive care unit: 'Pull the tube, let them go'

In an operation conducted in Istanbul and Tekirdağ, 40 suspects, including doctors, were apprehended for allegedly collaborating with individuals working at the 112 Emergency Call Center to transfer newborn emergency patients to neonatal units of private hospitals they had pre-arranged, thereby generating illicit profit; 14 of them were arrested.

16 SUSPECTS DETAINED

According to the report by Şahin Şen from Yeni Şafak, 16 suspects, including doctors, inspectors, and nurses, were detained in the second wave of the operation carried out the day before yesterday against the network that caused the deaths of some babies through malpractice.

Following technical surveillance, the network of relationships within the neonatal intensive care ring and how the babies were abandoned to die were once again revealed.

'PULL THE TUBE, LET THEM GO, THEY WILL DIE ANYWAY'

Conversations between an Iranian doctor and a nurse on duty at the hospital regarding the death of a 28-week-old baby admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit were chilling.

It was determined that when the nurse called the Iranian doctor after the baby's general condition deteriorated, the doctor told the nurse, "Don't perform CPR, never mind. They are already 28 weeks old, pull the tube, let them go, they will die anyway."

The investigation revealed that the doctor responsible for the neonatal unit at the hospital was the Iranian physician's wife, but the Iranian physician had insisted on treating the babies himself, stating, "I do not let my wife deal with men."

CONVERSATIONS WERE HAIR-RAISING

New wiretaps have also emerged regarding the death of the African baby Opera, whose death was only realized hours later, as revealed in the initial investigation.

It was determined that in conversations among themselves following the baby's death, the nurses on duty at the hospital admitted that the 6-month-old baby Opera should not have been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.

The nurses found to have been negligent were detained in the second wave of the operation.
