Scandalous list published: Which butter and cheese products threaten health?

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has published a list dated October 17, 2024, containing butter and cheese products that threaten health. The list includes products found to be non-compliant during food safety inspections.

Natamycin is an additive used in milk and dairy products to prevent the formation of mold and yeast. However, excessive use of this substance can lead to serious side effects on human health. According to experts, excessive consumption of natamycin can cause various health problems, primarily vomiting, diarrhea, and allergic reactions.

The Ministry has presented to the public the list of products and companies found to be non-compliant as a result of the inspections. In the announcement dated October 17, 2024, the brands and products found to be non-compliant due to the detection of natamycin in examinations of cheese and butter products were clearly stated. The companies and products in question were shared in detail on the ministry's official website.

This list aims to inform consumers about food safety and intends to remove products that pose a risk to health from the market. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry emphasized that it will continue its efforts to protect public health by tightening food inspections.

HEALTH RISKS AND NATAMYCIN USE

Although natamycin is considered safe when used within certain limits in dairy products, some producers exceeding this limit can lead to health problems. For this reason, the ministry aims to ensure consumer safety through regular inspections. It is pointed out that the use of natamycin in frequently consumed foods such as cheese and butter should be monitored carefully.

While the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry invites the public to be sensitive about food safety, it stated that individuals should check the lists published by the ministry before consuming these products. It was also reminded that consumers who encounter a suspicious situation can report it via the Alo 174 Food Line.

WHAT IS NATAMYCIN?

Natamycin is a substance used as a natural preservative in food products, specifically preventing the growth of mold and yeast. Although classified as a food additive, it can be harmful to human health when used in excessive amounts. The European Union and other international authorities have imposed strict limits on the use of natamycin. However, unregulated and uncontrolled production can lead to these limits being exceeded.

These latest inspections have once again revealed that producers across Turkey need to act more carefully and responsibly regarding the use of natamycin. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry emphasized that such inspections and announcements are of great importance for raising public awareness and protecting the right to access safe food.

LIST OF CHEESE CONTAINING NATAMYCIN

The list published on October 17, 2024, contains the non-compliances that emerged as a result of checks carried out on milk and dairy products. The Ministry announced that inspections will continue to increase and that it will continue to regularly announce to the public all food products that may endanger public health.

WARNING TO CONSUMERS

It was stated that consumers should check whether the products they purchase are safe and should be especially careful with products containing natamycin. The ministry warns individuals against excessive consumption of products containing natamycin and draws attention to the importance of making conscious choices regarding healthy nutrition.
