Scandalous scenes at Newroz celebration in Diyarbakır: TUSAŞ attackers featured

The Newroz celebration held in Diyarbakır under the leadership of the DEM Party has become the target of intense criticism due to the banners displayed and certain slogans used.

During the event at Newroz Park, the display of banners featuring photographs of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, and individuals whose names have been involved in various past attacks, caused harsh reactions from the public. Attendees included CHP Deputy Chairman and Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu, DBP Co-Chairs Keskin Bayındır and Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, and Saadet Party Provincial Chairman Abdurrahman Ergin.

During the event, where ethnic and political themes were prominent, some groups chanted slogans in favor of the terrorist organization, and demands for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan were voiced. While the traditional Newroz fire was lit at the well-attended celebration, several artists also took the stage.

The events quickly created a stir, drawing sharp criticism from many political figures and segments of society. In his speech, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan thanked those who attended the Newroz celebration and touched upon the call for "laying down arms and self-dissolution" that Abdullah Öcalan had made in the past. Bakırhan stated that thanks to this call, the weapons had fallen silent.

In response, Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ used the following expressions in a post on his social media account:

“They celebrate Newroz with photos of the murderers of our soldiers, and then they say they want ‘Peace.’ Millions of martyrs' and veterans' families, the Turkish Nation will not say yes to the betrayal you call Peace.”
