Schools closed in earthquake-hit region

Due to the first anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, education has been suspended for 1 day in Adıyaman, Malatya, Kahramanmaraş, and Gaziantep.

ADIYAMAN

The Adıyaman Governor's Office announced that education has been suspended for tomorrow due to the first anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes. The statement from the Governor's Office noted that commemoration programs will be held for the anniversary of the earthquakes, and stated the following:

"Due to the commemoration program to be held in our province and the potential for congestion caused by cemetery and condolence visits by our citizens, education has been suspended for one day on Tuesday, February 6, in all primary and secondary schools across our province. Furthermore, all necessary assistance will be provided to our personnel working in public institutions and organizations who will attend the commemoration programs and cemetery visits."

GAZİANTEP

In a statement made on the Gaziantep Governor's Office's social media account, it was stated, "Due to the anniversary of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, which affected 11 of our provinces and are considered the disaster of the century, education has been suspended for 1 day on February 6, 2024." 

KAHRAMANMARAŞ

The following was noted in a statement made on the social media account of the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Directorate of National Education:

"Due to the anniversary of the earthquakes that occurred in our province on February 6, 2023, there will be traffic congestion across our province due to condolence and cemetery visits, as well as commemoration ceremonies. In addition, school buses used for student transport will create further traffic density. For this reason, education and training in all official and private schools and institutions at all levels across our province have been suspended for one day on February 6, 2024."

MALATYA

Malatya Governor Ersin Yazıcı stated on his social media account, "Due to the anniversary of the February 6 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake, and considering the potential for congestion due to the commemoration program to be held in our province and the cemetery and condolence visits to be made by our citizens, education has been suspended for 1 day on February 6, 2024, in all official and private primary and secondary schools across our province."
