Schools reopen, traffic gridlocked in Istanbul

On the first day of the week following the one-week mid-term break, traffic congestion increased on both sides of the city.

Traffic congestion formed on the D-100 Highway, the TEM Motorway, and connecting roads.

With school buses and private vehicles joining the morning commute, traffic density reached 50 percent on both sides of Istanbul. Around 08:00 in the morning, traffic density was around 51 percent on the European Side and reached 60 percent on the Anatolian Side.

Traffic congestion was also experienced on the D-100 highway at the Haliç Bridge, Mecidiyeköy, and the 15 July Martyrs Bridge locations.

Traffic congestion also occurred on side streets where schools are located due to school buses and parents bringing their children in private vehicles.
